La pubblicazione, secondo volume della Collana WoW (World of Wister) nasce a seguito di vari incontri e corsi gratuiti tenuti nel corso dell’ultimo anno dalla Rete WISTER-SGI a diverse categorie quali genitori, docenti, educatori, insegnanti, studenti, raccogliendo i contributi di esperte/i, studiosi/e sulle tematiche legate all’utilizzo della Rete in termini di opportunità e rischi.L’ebook è stato strutturato in tre capitoli tematici.La prima sezione è quella dedicata alle opportunità legate al potenziale dell’utilizzo di Internet in ambito professionale, sociale, economico e privato. Nel capitolo abbiamo analizzato come le principali opportunità offerte dalla rete si possono classificare in alcune categorie omogenee: Relazioni sociali; Relazioni politiche; Economia e lavoro; Condivisione della conoscenza, Ricerca e formazione; Benessere e qualità della vita. La seconda sezione, dedicata invece ai rischi, cerca di porre in evidenza quelli che sono alcuni tra i rischi maggiormente presenti sulla rete a cui siamo sottoposti oggi, anche in ottica di genere, per far conoscere alcuni fenomeni quali cyberbullismo, cyberstalking, hate speech, molestie on line, sottolineando come attraverso un uso consapevole e intelligente degli strumenti, questi pericoli possano essere arginati. Nelle attività online le persone hanno una minore consapevolezza dei rischi e sono meno prudenti nella valutazione delle situazioni di pericolo rispetto all'ambiente fisico, ciò può aumentare la probabilità di messaggi formulati negativamente oppure inviati senza una corretta considerazione di come potrebbero essere interpretati, sopratutto laddove si riscontrano carenze conoscitive e mancanza di competenze o consapevolezza sufficiente in relazione agli strumenti tecnologici e digitali utilizzati per le proprie interazioni. Ed infatti l'uso distorto di alcuni di questi strumenti - social network, blog, chat, istant messaging, email, sms - ha contribuito alla nascita e sviluppo del fenomeno delle molestie online (cyberbullying e/o cyberharrasment).La terza e ultima parte è finalizzata alla presentazione di strumenti utili a utilizzare nel migliore dei modi i servizi, le applicazioni, i software o i progetti già presenti in Rete. Il tutto con l’obiettivo primario di indurre le persone a utilizzare lo strumento Rete con approccio critico, al riparo da pericoli, consentendo una crescita culturale, professionale, sociale. Un uso consapevole degli strumenti informatici a disposizione, unito a buone abitudini di sicurezza online non danno sicurezza assoluta per se stessi e per chi ci sta vicino. La sicurezza al 100% in informatica non esiste, ma molto si può fare anche con pochi accorgimenti per proteggere i nostri dati e metterci al riparo dai rischi più diffusi. Tenendo un atteggiamento corretto, inoltre, possiamo contribuire tutti a fare della Rete che abitiamo un posto più pulito, più serio, più attendibile. E magari anche un posto dove possiamo sentirci più sicuri.
