Information Modelling and Knowledge Bases XVIII

"In the last decades, information modelling and knowledge bases have become hot topics not only in academic communities related to information systems and computer science, but also in business areas where information technology is applied. This book aims to exchange scientific results and experiences achieved in computer science and other related disciplines using innovative methods and progressive approaches. A platform has been established drawing together researches as well as practitioners dealing with information modelling and knowledge bases. The main topics of this publication target the variety of themes in the domain of information modelling, conceptual analysis, design and specification of information systems, ontologies, software engineering, knowledge and process management, data and knowledge bases. The editors also aim at applying new progressive theories. To this end, much attention is also being paid to theoretical disciplines including cognitive science, artificial intelligence, logic, linguistics and analytical philosophy. The selected papers cover many areas of information modelling, namely theory of concepts, database semantics, knowledge representation, software engineering, WWW information management, context-based information retrieval, ontological technology, image databases, temporal and spatial databases, document data management, process management, and many others."

but computers still do not understand natural language. It seems more and more
difficult to believe in success of natural language systems with built-in semantics.
The best-known system of this type - Cyc - has been developed for 21 years (
using milliards of dollars) and it is still not working. Natural language is a dynamic
system, which is constantly changing (emerging), new words, new meanings of
old words etc appear all the time. There is no such thing as ONE (e.g. english) ...

Real-Time Object Uniform Design Methodology with UML

This multi-function volume starts off as an ideal basic textbook for teaching object modeling, fundamental concepts learning and system designing with thirteen UML diagrams. But it also contains a whole section devoted to advanced research topics, samples and case studies. It is an essential work for any system developer or graduate student in a discipline that requires the power of object modeling as part of a development methodology.

Modeling and Analysis of Network Protocols

This book gives a practical approach to modeling and analyzing communication protocols using UML 2. Network protocols are always presented with a point of view focusing on partial mechanisms and starting models. This book aims at giving the basis needed for anybody to model and validate their own protocols. It follows a practical approach and gives many examples for the description and analysis of well known basic network mechanisms for protocols. The book firstly shows how to describe and validate the main protocol issues (such as synchronization problems, client-server interactions, layer organization and behavior, etc.) in an easy and understandable way. To do so, the book considers and presents the main traditional network examples (e.g. unidirectional flows, full-duplex com-munication, error recovering, alternating bit). Finally, it presents the outputs resulting from a few simulations of these UML models. Other books usually only focus either on teaching UML or on analyzing network protocols, however this book will allow readers to model network protocols using a new perspective and integrating these two views, so facilitating their comprehension and development. Any university student studying in the field of computing science, or those working in telecommunications, embedded systems or networking will find this book a very useful addition.

Teachers' Understanding on Brain-based Teaching and Learning Approach in Mathematics Classroom

The emergence of TIMMS and PISA that measure the student cognitive performance against the international standards has become very important and the latest TIMMS and PISA result showed that critically 18% and 60% of the students did not meet minimum proficiency level in Mathematics. These students were identified as possessing only limited mastery of basic mathematical and scientific concepts. The new education policy has been designed to meet the standard and the teachers and pupils have to equip with new approach of teaching and learning method.
