Seasons of the Soul

Seasons of the Soul is a compelling collection of poetry that gives the reader vivid images of the roller coaster ride of living with a mental illness. This poetry will invoke emotions as it reflects the joys and gut wrenching challenges of having an acute perception that can amount to madness and utter elation at being alive in this world. Seasons of the Soul is a testament that gives hope to those diagnosed with a mental illness, that miracles can happen.

Fragments of a Lesson Plan

An informal, sometimes flip, scathingly provocative journal, Fragments of a Lesson Plan has emerged from Robert Belenky's personal and professional journey in search of ways to be useful to others as a psychologist-educator. His style is indicative of the art-exploratory, questioning, ambivalent at times. Belenky has pulled together tangential pieces and parts of his work as a psychologist, educator, and researcher. He presents the good with the bad in a collection from his personal journal, from reports, from tape-recorded interviews of the people he has dealt with-children, mothers, criminals, teachers, comp counselors, juvenile delinquents and colleagues. With frankness and honesty, he lets the reader in on the open disputes, the racial friction, the "ego trips", and the muddling-through which occur in all experimental projects-but never get reported. He presents real programs and real people from a close perspective. The result is a welcome antidote to the self-laudatory, jargon-filled memoranda and papers written for the heads of foundations and professional journals. His "ruminations" make indispensable reading for the would-be community mental health architect.

Canadian Mig Flights

This book is a collection of "there I was" stories highlighting the experiences of Canadian Forces pilots who have had the opportunity of a lifetime to fly in the combat aircraft operated by former adversaries. Technical descriptions of key Soviet-built fighter jets such as the MiG-15, MiG-21, MiG-23, MiG-25, MiG-29, Sukhoi Su-22 and Su-27 are included for general reference. The Canadian Fighter pilots mentioned in the story have generously provided their observations and comments on their specific experiences of flight in aircraft such as the MiG-29 (NATO codenamed Fulcrum), Sukhoi Su-22 (codenamed Fitter) and Su-27 (codenamed Flanker), both in Canada and overseas. The stories as told first hand by the pilots who contributed them should provide interesting reading for aviation enthusiasts of all ages. An Annex listing aircraft known to have been brought to the West by defecting pilots since 1949 is also included. The Annex briefly describes pilots and aircraft and the circumstances that brought the various defectors to the west, including the MiG-15 flown to South Korea by Lieutenant No Kum-Sok and the MiG-25 flown to Japan by Lieutenant Viktor Belenko. Brief details of Soviet-built aircraft later flown in NATO opposition force flight test programs are also included.

The Sherlock Holmes Adventure

He turned up the light, filled and lit a pipe, and then turned to the note from Sherlock Holmes. It read: "Pitt-Inspector MacLeish paid me a visit this evening to discuss the particulars of a murder that occurred at Coldfall Lodge, Tetherdown. Mr. Artimus Weatherill was brutally murdered and property taken, including a fair amount in sovereigns. There are some particulars regarding this event that puzzle MacLeish and since I am returning to Glasgow in the morning to testify in the Seamus Walsh affair, I took the liberty of telling the Inspector you would look into it in my absence. If your appointments will give you the morning, MacLeish will be at Coldfell Lodge at seven o'clock. Best regards, Holmes" Enter Joshua Pitt, inquiry agent, chess playing opponent of Dr. Watson, and one-time Baker Street Irregular who has set up shop little more than a block away on Baker Street. A young man in his late twenties, he is rarely without a smoking pipe at hand, a good blend of tobacco, and prefers strong Assam tea and Highland whiskey. His cases are as much adventure as mystery, and the reader is invited along for the ride, in a hansom, of course.

Dr. Abraham’S Happy Little Stories

Dr. Abraham says that when babies come out of their mommies’ tummies, they immediately start gathering data. They have empty shelves to put new information on, so the stories they hear help shape their personalities. The more curious kids become, the better, since curious kids grow to be creators, inventors, and artists—special people who think outside the box and get the most out of life. In Dr. Abraham’s Happy Little Stories, read tall tales about loving families and adventurous children. It’s true that parents might exaggerate a bit, but it’s all part of storytelling and nurturing the creative mind. Four fantastical interludes introduce characters like Hazel Larue and Harold, parents known for spinning silly stories. Plus, meet the kids—Donny Leroy, and Peggy Sue—who are clever and kind. There’s also Howard Hudson Holt Jr., better known as Harry, who not only makes friends with a snake but also learns the truth about earwax. Read the mad adventures of parents and children, all of whom think outside the box and revel in the beauty of imagination. Sometimes it’s good to be silly, flex the creative muscles, and maybe, someday, make up tall tales of your own!
