“Micro Teaching - A Way to Build up Skills”

The most important point in microteaching is that teaching is practiced in terms of
definable, observable, measurable and controllable teaching skills'. Sharma (
1981) defined Microteaching as” a specific teacher training technique through ...

Developing and Validating Test Items

Since test items are the building blocks of any test, learning how to develop and validate test items has always been critical to the teaching-learning process. As they grow in importance and use, testing programs increasingly supplement the use of selected-response (multiple-choice) items with constructed-response formats. This trend is expected to continue. As a result, a new item writing book is needed, one that provides comprehensive coverage of both types of items and of the validity theory underlying them. This book is an outgrowth of the author’s previous book, Developing and Validating Multiple-Choice Test Items, 3e (Haladyna, 2004). That book achieved distinction as the leading source of guidance on creating and validating selected-response test items. Like its predecessor, the content of this new book is based on both an extensive review of the literature and on its author’s long experience in the testing field. It is very timely in this era of burgeoning testing programs, especially when these items are delivered in a computer-based environment. Key features include ... Comprehensive and Flexible – No other book so thoroughly covers the field of test item development and its various applications. Focus on Validity – Validity, the most important consideration in testing, is stressed throughout and is based on the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing, currently under revision by AERA, APA, and NCME Illustrative Examples – The book presents various selected and constructed response formats and uses many examples to illustrate correct and incorrect ways of writing items. Strategies for training item writers and developing large numbers of items using algorithms and other item-generating methods are also presented. Based on Theory and Research – A comprehensive review and synthesis of existing research runs throughout the book and complements the expertise of its authors.

Developing Writers

Teaching and Learning in the Digital Age

Annotation This book takes a fresh look at what it means to learn and develop as a writer in response to concerns on both sides of the Atlantic, and elsewhere in the world, about standards in writing.

What is different about composing digitally in writing, compared to composing
with a pen and paper, a typewriter or other 'pre-digital' medium? And what are the
implications of this difference for writing and its development? Such questions ...

Introduction to Real Analysis

An Educational Approach

An accessible introduction to real analysis and its connection to elementary calculus Bridging the gap between the development and history of real analysis, Introduction to Real Analysis: An Educational Approach presents a comprehensive introduction to real analysis while also offering a survey of the field. With its balance of historical background, key calculus methods, and hands-on applications, this book provides readers with a solid foundation and fundamental understanding of real analysis. The book begins with an outline of basic calculus, including a close examination of problems illustrating links and potential difficulties. Next, a fluid introduction to real analysis is presented, guiding readers through the basic topology of real numbers, limits, integration, and a series of functions in natural progression. The book moves on to analysis with more rigorous investigations, and the topology of the line is presented along with a discussion of limits and continuity that includes unusual examples in order to direct readers' thinking beyond intuitive reasoning and on to more complex understanding. The dichotomy of pointwise and uniform convergence is then addressed and is followed by differentiation and integration. Riemann-Stieltjes integrals and the Lebesgue measure are also introduced to broaden the presented perspective. The book concludes with a collection of advanced topics that are connected to elementary calculus, such as modeling with logistic functions, numerical quadrature, Fourier series, and special functions. Detailed appendices outline key definitions and theorems in elementary calculus and also present additional proofs, projects, and sets in real analysis. Each chapter references historical sources on real analysis while also providing proof-oriented exercises and examples that facilitate the development of computational skills. In addition, an extensive bibliography provides additional resources on the topic. Introduction to Real Analysis: An Educational Approach is an ideal book for upper- undergraduate and graduate-level real analysis courses in the areas of mathematics and education. It is also a valuable reference for educators in the field of applied mathematics.

With its balance of historical background, key calculus methods, and hands-on applications, this book provides readers with a solid foundation and fundamental understanding of real analysis.

Introduction to Differential Equations

This book provides students with solid knowledge of the basic principles of differential equations and a clear understanding of the various ways of obtaining their solutions by applying suitable methods. It is primarily intended to serve as a textbook for undergraduate students of mathematics. It will also be useful for undergraduate engineering students of all disciplines as part of their course in engineering mathematics. No book on differential equations is complete without a treatment of special functions and special equations. A chapter in this book has been devoted to the detailed study of special functions such as the gamma function, beta function, hypergeometric function, and Bessel function, as well as special equations such as the Legendre equation, Chebyshev equation, Hermite equation, and Laguerre equation. The general properties of various orthogonal polynomials such as Legendre, Chebyshev, Hermite, and Laguerre have also been covered. A large number of solved examples as well as exercises at the end of many chapter sections help to comprehend as well as to strengthen the grasp of the underlying concepts and principles of the subject. The answers to all the exercises are provided at the end of the book.

This book provides students with solid knowledge of the basic principles of differential equations and a clear understanding of the various ways of obtaining their solutions by applying suitable methods.

Testing the Untestable in Language Education

The testing and assessment of language competence continues to be a much debated issue in foreign language teaching and research. This book is the first one to address the testing of four important dimensions of foreign language education which have been left largely unconsidered: learner autonomy, intercultural competence, literature and literary competence, and the integration of content and language learning. Each area is considered through a theoretical framework, followed by two empirical studies, raising questions of importance to all language teachers: How can one test literary competence? Can intercultural competence be measured? What about the integrated assessment of content-and-language in CLIL and teaching? Is progress in autonomous learning skill gaugeable? The book constitutes essential reading for anyone interested in the testing and assessment of seemingly largely untestable aspects of foreign language competence.
