A Concrete Introduction to Real Analysis, Second Edition

The Second Edition offers a major re-organization of the book, with the goal of making it much more competitive as a text for students. The revised edition will be appropriate for a one- or two-semester introductory real analysis course. Like the first edition, the primary audience is the large collection of students who will never take a graduate level analysis course. The choice of topics and level of coverage is suitable for future high school teachers, and for students who will become engineers or other professionals needing a sound working knowledge of undergraduate mathematics.

Introduction to Real Analysis, 4th Edition

This text provides the fundamental concepts and techniques of real analysis for students in all of these areas. It helps one develop the ability to think deductively, analyze mathematical situations, and extend ideas to a new context. Like the first three editions, this edition maintains the same spirit and user-friendly approach with additional examples and expansion on Logical Operations and Set Theory. There is also content revision in the following areas: Introducing point-set topology before discussing continuity, including a more thorough discussion of limsup and limimf, covering series directly following sequences, adding coverage of Lebesgue Integral and the construction of the reals, and drawing student attention to possible applications wherever possible.

This text provides the fundamental concepts and techniques of real analysis for students in all of these areas.

Differential Equations, Dynamical Systems, and an Introduction to Chaos

This text is about the dynamical aspects of ordinary differential equations and the relations between dynamical systems and certain fields outside pure mathematics. It is an update of one of Academic Press's most successful mathematics texts ever published, which has become the standard textbook for graduate courses in this area. The authors are tops in the field of advanced mathematics. Steve Smale is a Field's Medalist, which equates to being a Nobel prize winner in mathematics. Bob Devaney has authored several leading books in this subject area. Linear algebra prerequisites toned down from first edition Inclusion of analysis of examples of chaotic systems, including Lorenz, Rosssler, and Shilnikov systems Bifurcation theory included throughout.

An Introduction to Linear Ordinary Differential Equations Using the Impulsive Response Method and Factorization

This book presents a method for solving linear ordinary differential equations based on the factorization of the differential operator. The approach for the case of constant coefficients is elementary, and only requires a basic knowledge of calculus and linear algebra. In particular, the book avoids the use of distribution theory, as well as the other more advanced approaches: Laplace transform, linear systems, the general theory of linear equations with variable coefficients and variation of parameters. The case of variable coefficients is addressed using Mammana’s result for the factorization of a real linear ordinary differential operator into a product of first-order (complex) factors, as well as a recent generalization of this result to the case of complex-valued coefficients.

You may worry if you take time to write your book, you won't have time for other
important things in your life. Find it. Stay away from “either-or” and “when-I-then-I”
thinking. Decide that your life is one big “and” and the time to live it is now.
