In many parts of the world the language education scenario is increasingly dynamic, as demographic, economic and social changes powerfully influence socio-political agendas in the sphere of language education. These in turn impact on complex issues such as linguistic pluralism, multiculturalism, and marginalization. This is especially so in the sphere of second language education where local, national and regional concerns often dominate the objectives underpinning policy choice and prioritisation.<BR> This volume brings together scholars and researchers from a wide range of different educational contexts and turns a sociolinguistic lens on some of the key areas of concern for researchers in language education: critical awareness of power and identity issues; competence in dealing with new sociolinguistic repertoires, modalities and literacies; ethical concerns for all who are involved. Das Konzept des sicheren Rahmens der Psychoanalyse wird in seinem eigentlichen Bezugsfeld, dem des psychotherapeutischen Handelns, vorgestellt und in seinem Stellenwert fur padagogische Situationen untersucht. Die Arbeit am und mit dem Rahmen, die Rahmenhandhabung, wird verstanden als Beziehungsarbeit, durch die eine Stabilisierung und Erhohung des Sicherheitserlebens beim Patienten oder Klienten erreicht werden kann. Als zentrale Untersuchungsmethode wird die kontextbezogene Interventionstechnik und das Evaluationskonzept der adaptiven Psychoanalyse herangezogen. Dieses Evaluationskonzept stellt die in der konkreten Situation gewonnene Einsicht (kognitive Dimension) und Ubereinstimmung (emotionale Dimension) des Klienten ins Zentrum der qualitativen Bewertung der psychotherapeutischen und padagogischen Interventionen. Dadurch werden Erfahrungen von -gutem- Zusammensein, sozialem Lernen, Lernen des Lernens und Wissensaneignung ermoglicht."

Der empirischen Untersuchung lag die Fragestellung zugrunde, ob delinquentes Verhalten im Rahmen pathologischen Glücksspiels durch das süchtige Spielverhalten bedingt ist. Um der Vielschichtigkeit des kriminologischen Geschehens und seiner Entstehung gerecht zu werden, wurden auf der Grundlage eines täterorientierten Mehrfaktorenansatzes weitere potentielle kriminogene Bedingungsfaktoren wie Persönlichkeits- und soziale Bindungsmerkmale einbezogen. Die Datenerhebung erfolgte an Stichproben von SpielerInnen aus Behandlungseinrichtungen sowie aus der Bevölkerung und der Bundeswehr. Es zeigt sich, dass sowohl das süchtige Spielverhalten als auch die Persönlichkeitsmerkmale direkten Einfluss auf die Delinquenzbelastung nehmen. Bei Eigentums- und Vermögensdelikten ist der direkte kausale Effekt des Suchtverhaltens größer als der der Persönlichkeit. Der Bedeutungsgehalt der aufgezeigten Risikofaktoren variiert in einzelnen identifizierbaren Subgruppen pathologischer SpielerInnen (Neuland).

Academic texts present subject-specific ideas within a subject-independent framework. This book accounts for the presence of academic words in academic writing by exploring recurring patterns of function in texts representing different subject areas. The book presents a framework which describes academic word use at the ideational, textual and interpersonal levels. Functional categories are presented and illustrated which explain the role of academic words alongside general purpose and technical terms. The author examines biomedical research articles, and journal articles from arts, commerce and law. A comparable analysis focuses on university textbook chapters. Case studies investigate patterns of functionality within the main sections of research articles, compare word use in academic and non-academic texts reporting on the same research, and explore the carrier word function of academic vocabulary. The study concludes by looking at historical and contemporary processes which have shaped the presence of academic vocabulary in the English lexicon.

What does learning a language involve? Obviously, a rapid and definitive answer cannot be provided for this question since the aspects and situations affecting language learning are many and varied. From the role of culture to the use of new technologies in foreign language learning, this work aims to offer its readers some of the current research being carried out in different areas relevant to the topic. A long developing project has become reality thanks to the work of several researchers who are also experienced teaching professionals. In this sense, it is worth mentioning that most chapters of the book relate to different aspects of language learning within the classroom context which has resulted in realistic approaches to foreign language learning that can be of great help to those involved and/or interested in this field. Moreover, the clear division into sections allows readers to make their choice on how to proceed with the reading of the book depending on their thematic interests. Five sections make up this practical work: culture and language learning, human resources in language learning, language learning strategies, language learning software and language learning web resources.

This book investigates to what extent the quality of eligible collateral is able to explain inflation. Addressing this question, hypotheses derived from the "Theory of Property Economics" by Heinsohn & Steiger are tested. Data are collected using a questionnaire, answered by central banks. An index of the quality of eligible collateral is constructed. Regression analyses are performed based on a sample of 62 countries for the period 1990 to 2003. A negative, robust and statistically significant correlation between inflation and the quality of eligible collateral is found. Central bank independence cannot contribute to the explanation of inflation. The result supports the theory of Heinsohn & Steiger: Securitisation of central bank lending is crucial for price stability.
