Beginnings

Beginnings is the first volume in the series, and first exhibition, and reveals how common themes have been treated in different cultures and is an exploration of how such cultures have dealt with the creation of the universe and explained the heavens and the earth.

The Library of Congress began in 1800 as a small collection of books and
documents that Congress used as its reference library in drafting legislation for
the fledgling republic. After the British army invaded Washington in 1814 and
burned the Capitol, including the by now 3,000-volume Library of Congress,
Thomas Jefferson offered to sell his personal library at Monticello to Congress to
