The purpose of this dissertation is to inform the reader of the biblical information regarding the person and work of the evangelist. Therefore, there will be a thorough treatment of the three passages regarding the person of the evangelist that revolve around the word euangelistes and a thorough interacting with the biblical data regarding the work of the evangelist as demonstrated by the seventy-seven occurrences of the noun euangelion and the fifty-five occurrences of the verb euangelizo. Together the information provides a proper understanding of the person and the work of the evangelist. The conclusions will be supported throughout by historical examples, especially from the early centuries close to New Testament times and from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
