Always Face the Hounds: The Negotiation for Osama Bin Laden

For the first time, Meghan Hansen, a dual-citizen of the United States and Ireland, tells the story of how she met a senior government official from a Middle Eastern country during a horseback riding vacation in Italy in February 2006. She spent a week trying to convince him to allow the United States access to Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad, Pakistan in exchange for aid. Their conversation took the road less traveled covering the Bay of Pigs and President Kennedy’s assassination, the Bush family’s ties to the bin Ladens, the Carlyle Group, 9/11 and the war over oil in the Middle East, and even MK ULTRA mind-programmed murders, before she convinced him that the US could send a sniper to capture or kill Osama bin Laden and avoid killing innocent civilians in Pakistan. These talks ended peacefully in a handshake deal, which was impossible to implement by international laws at that time, but was eventually carried through by President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. On May 2, 2011, finally, New York saw justice served. Always Face the Hounds is a short walk through the negotiation, highlighting a few of the shocking points that arose, and illuminating several hair-raising questions that are still left unanswered by our own government in the United States of America.

Brain and Art

Could we understand, in biological terms, the unique and fantastic capabilities of the human brain to both create and enjoy art? In the past decade neuroscience has made a huge leap in developing experimental techniques as well as theoretical frameworks for studying emergent properties following the activity of large neuronal networks. These methods, including MEG, fMRI, sophisticated data analysis approaches and behavioral methods, are increasingly being used in many labs worldwide, with the goal to explore brain mechanisms corresponding to the artistic experience. The 37 articles composing this unique Frontiers Research Topic bring together experimental and theoretical research, linking state-of-the-art knowledge about the brain with the phenomena of Art. It covers a broad scope of topics, contributed by world-renowned experts in vision, audition, somato-sensation, movement, and cinema. Importantly, as we felt that a dialog among artists and scientists is essential and fruitful, we invited a few artists to contribute their insights, as well as their art. Joan Miró said that “art is the search for the alphabet of the mind.” This volume reflects the state of the art search to understand neurobiological alphabet of the Arts. We hope that the wide range of articles in this volume will be highly attractive to brain researchers, artists and the community at large.

Making the Connection Between Brain and Behavior

Coping with Parkinson's Disease

Fully Revised and Updated The only complete and up-to-date book addressing the most common behavioral symptoms of Parkinsonís Disease (PD), including depression, anxiety, hallucinations, disrupted sleep, and compulsive behavior. When people think about PD they usually picture tremor, shuffling, and other physical changes. But as many as 90% of all Parkinsonís patients also live with behavioral symptoms that few families are prepared to handle. In this fully revised and updated edition of Making the Connection Between Brain and Behavior, Dr. Joseph H. Friedman, a leading expert in PD, explains the most common behavioral issues in down-to-earth, straightforward language, offers the most current research on available therapies and medications, and provides guidance on ways to communicate with your healthcare team for effective treatment. Now, fully updated and revised throughout and including three new chapters and two new appendices, Making the Connection Between Brain and Behavior includes even more information on a variety of treatment options, including Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT). It is an essential resource for every person with PD and his or her family.

17. Misperception. The behavioral topics I addressed earlier in the book are
different in nature than the topics addressed here. The other chapters focus on
emotionally based issues, whereas this chapter is aimed at describing some of
the ways in which Parkinson's disease (PD) patients, as the result of their
disorder, may see the world differently than the rest of us in a “real-world” fashion.

Brain and Being

At the Boundary Between Science, Philosophy, Language and Arts

This book results from a group meeting held at the Institute for Scientific Exchange in Torino, Italy. The central aim was for scientists to “think together” in new ways with those in the humanities inspired by quantum theory and especially quantum brain theory. These fields of inquiry have suffered conceptual estrangement but now are ripe for rapprochement, if academic parochialism is put aside. A prevalent theme of the book is a moving away from individual elements and individual actors acting upon each other, toward a coordinate hermeneutic dynamics that manifests as a coherent totality. Among the topics covered are image in photography and in neuroscience; language; time; brain and mathematics; quantum brain dynamics and quantum communication.

On the basis of a recent physical theory of many-body problems developed in our

typical features, such as learning and memory processes, find therein a natural
and simple explanation. In the Appendix a short surview of the necessary
mathematical formalism is finally given. 1. Introduction Although nowadays the
