Self-Propagating High-Temperature Synthesis of Materials is a collection of papers that reflects modern trends in self-propagating, high-temperature synthesis (SHS), a process for synthesis of modern materials carried out in the mode of autowave solid-flame combustion. To date, SHS-produced materials have found their application in different branches of modern science and technology, mechanical engineering, ferrous and nonferrous metallurgy, aerospace engineering, chemical industry, electrical engineering, and electronics. Its both moving and wonderful. I enjoy it too much to put it down for long. I read through the entire work spellbound, reflecting on how rare it is to encounter reading material that both entertains and instructs. Despite its title, the book is more about life than about death. For sure, the book is filled with pearls of wisdom regarding the ultimate and final journey that we all take. But the informal and anecdotal nature of the story renders it just that: a story of how death should be viewed through the lens of life. Prof. Stephen Thomas

This paper presents an approach for analyzing the socioeconomic, health, and environmental aspects of urban wastewater use in peri-urban agriculture, using typical characteristics of a major city in a developing country. Peri-urban area of Faisalabad is chosen to represent this context.

in valuation measures, additional problems may arise in assessing various
impacts of wastewater use in agriculture. The use of human capital approach
may be problematic particularly when the cause and effect relationship between
the disease and wastewater irrigation in not known or when the sickness is of
long duration.
The objective of this paper is to provide a review of the characteristics of wastewater used for irrigation, and the reasoning behind the international guidelines presently used in regulating wastewater reuse for agriculture. This paper presents various systems of wastewater treatment available and discusses their benefits and shortcomings. A selective review of recent empirical studies identifies major impacts both positive and negative impacts of wastewater irrigation. Finally, the paper provides the review of environmental valuation techniques for analyzing impacts of wastewater uses in agriculture, and suggest a framework for application of some of these techniques. This framework will be applied to a developing country case study (Faisalabad area in Pakistan), in the ongoing IWMI research program.
