The Importance of Learning Styles: Understanding the Implications for Learning, Course Design, and Education

Understanding the Implications for Learning, Course Design, and Education

This book provides a timely review of learning style research. It examines those approaches that purport to promote effective learning. It affirms the need for instructors and trainers to recognize the importance of individual learning differences and to use methods that help create a learning climate which increases the potential learning for all students or trainees regardless of their preferred way of learning. The ability to understand and to teach to the various learning styles of students is essential to improving the effectiveness of college-level education. In this book, Sims and Sims bring together significant research to aid academics and organizational trainers in understanding and applying learning style research and knowledge to program, course, and class development.

7 Adapting Faculty and Student Learning Styles: Implications for Accounting
Education William T. Geary and Ronald R. Sims Few disciplines can match the
commitment to change in educational practices that is evidenced in accounting.
The process of change in accounting education is distinguished by both the
breadth and depth of the effort. Organizations such as the American Accounting

A Content-based Unit in the High School Spanish Classroom

This capstone project was designed to teach a content-based unit in a college preparatory high school classroom. The unit focuses on the environment and ways the students can help the environment, and also has students investigating some environmental practices of land policy in Costa Rica, recycling in the United States, and overall practices that can help or harm the environment. The unit emphasizes both communication and content, and uses the three modes of communication: interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational for the assessment. Each day of the unit is described, and analyzed with both strengths like the integration of the future tense and weaknesses to be addressed like students preparedness for interpersonal assessments. A final analysis of the unit describes it as a successful unit that would have a few changes such as changing the order of the assessments in the unit, and slowing the pace of the vocabulary instruction if the teacher were to teach it in future years.

System Simulation, Modelling and Languages

Designed as a text for undergraduate students (B.Tech./B.E.) of Computer Science and Engineering and IT, Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering, and postgraduate students (M.Tech./M.E., M.Sc.) of Computer Science and Engineering and IT and Industrial Engineering, as well as for Bachelor and Master of Computer Applications (BCA/MCA), this well-organized book gives an in-depth analysis of the concepts of system simulation modelling and simulation languages. The book provides detailed discussions on the fundamental and advanced concepts of simulation. The book begins with the concept of system and the different terminologies associated with the system. Then it presents the different methods of random number generation and their tests. Besides, the text dwells on different probability distributions and their random variates, which are used in the simulation model, and describes various simulation languages such as GPSS, Simula I, SIMSCRIPT, CSL, GASP, OPS-3, DYNAMO, SIMAN and SLAM II. Further, it gives a comprehensive coverage of different queueing systems with illustrative examples as well as the logics of simulation model for both single-server and parallel-server queueing systems. The concluding chapters deal extensively with GPSS language, Arena simulation software and ProModel simulation software. Key Features • Follows a step-by-step approach to derive the test results. • Gives a large number of solved examples and well-designed chapter-end questions. • Includes several real-life Case Studies to illustrate the concepts discussed.

In Chapter 7, the logic of simulating different real-life situations using high-level
languages has been presented. If one closely examines different segments of
those flow charts, it will be clear that there exist some standard modules such as
customer arrival time module, service completion time module, adding customers
into queue module, end of simulation module, etc. If such modules are made into
different blocks/subroutines which can be invoked at appropriate point in the

Smart Cards, Tokens, Security and Applications

Providing a broad overview of the many card systems and solutions in practical use today, this state-of-the art work is written by contributing authors who are active researchers and acknowledged experts in their field. A single book cannot be found to match both the breadth and depth of content. The book combines a cross-discipline overview of smart cards, tokens and related security and applications plus a technical reference to support further research and study. A step-by-step approach educates the reader and by the end of the book the reader should be able to play an educated role in a smart card related project.

looking market trader was clear to see. Similarly the merchant had some clues to
the authenticity of the customer and his presented credentials, because the “
Cardholder was Present”. Fast forward back today and there is a much greater
proportion of transactions when the “Cardholder is Not Present” (CNP). One
immediately thinks of the Internet as the driving force for this, but we have in fact
being generating CNP transactions for a long time by purchasing items over the
telephone.

Developing Applications with Visual Basic and UML

Reed's guide includes detailed coverage of architecting VB enterprise applications and features working examples and step-by-step instructions for planning and development of an order entry system, detailing do's and don't's for analysis, design and construction. CD-ROM contains several templates for applying UML, as well as complete Rational Rose models for the sample applications.

UML for the IT Business Analyst

Today, information-technology business analysts are often working on object-oriented (OO), Unified Modeling Language (UML) projects, yet they have a long way to go to exploit the technology beyond the adoption of use cases (just one part of the UML). This
