Evolutionary Computation in Combinatorial Optimization

15th European Conference, EvoCOP 2015, Copenhagen, Denmark, April 8-10, 2015, Proceedings

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 15th European Conference on Evolutionary Computation in Combinatorial Optimization, EvoCOP 2015, held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in April 2015, co-located with the Evo*2015 events EuroGP, EvoMUSART and EvoApplications. The 19 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 46 submissions. The papers cover methodology, applications and theoretical studies. The methods included evolutionary and memetic (hybrid) algorithms, iterated local search, variable neighbourhood search, ant colony optimization, artificial immune systems, hyper-heuristics and other adaptive approaches. The applications include both traditional domains, such as graph coloring, knapsack, vehicle routing, job-shop scheduling, the p-median and the orienteering problems; and new(er) domains such as designing deep recurrent neural networks, detecting network community structure, lock scheduling of ships, cloud resource management, the fire-fighter problem and AI planning. The theoretical studies involved approximation ratio, runtime and black-box complexity analyses.

Think ASEAN!

Rethinking Marketing Toward ASEAN Community 2015

Overview Think ASEAN! explores how companies should think of ASEAN as one borderless market that requires different marketing strategies to capture. It offers fresh perspectives to marketers all over the region on the upcoming trends of regionalization that can cause significant changes in future marketing activities. It argues that ASEAN marketers should not only be concerned about their local or global but also their regional marketing activities. The book contains three parts. Part I describes the landscape of ASEAN and explains clearly why ASEAN marketing is needed. Parts II and III discuss companies that have been very successful in implementing ASEAN Marketing. Part II looks at short cases of companies to explore their core marketing strategies; these companies include Bengawan Solo (Singapore), Dji Sam Soe (Indonesia), Goldilocks (the Philippines), Royal Selangor (Malaysia), Black Canyon (Thailand) and Number One Tonic Drink (Vietnam). Part III contains more comprehensive cases of selected companies including AirAsia and Yamaha. Features of This Book § Think ASEAN! is the first publication of the Philip Kotler Center for ASEAN Marketing. § Special foreword written by Ong Keng Yong, the Secretary-General of ASEAN § There are several marketing models developed by the authors e.g., the 4C Diamond sub-model and the Sustainable Model. § The 20 companies featured as case studies are excellent working models of companies that have used the positioning-differentiation-brand triangle successfully to market their brands.

Knowledge Enterprise: Intelligent Strategies in Product Design, Manufacturing, and Management

Proceedings of PROLAMAT 2006, IFIP TC5, International Conference, June 15-17 2006, Shanghai, China

This volume contains the edited version of the technical presentations of PROLMAT 2006, the IFIP TC5 international conference held on June 15-17, 2006 at the Shanghai University in China. Profitability is no longer only a function of price, cost, and adequate quality. The way sustained competitive advantage relates to a firm is distinctive and it is difficult to replicate competencies. The basis for a firm’s core competencies is its repository of organizational knowledge. This is highly-valued knowledge that provides opportunities for adding exclusive value to products and services of an enterprise. Knowledge strategy will be related to innovation, learning, and agility. Conversion of advanced research into advanced products; acquisition of knowledge from experience; and fast response-time to the dynamic market changes, are the important rules of international industrial competition at the moment. Innovation, learning, and agility are key factors for companies, which must shift in global markets rapidly and efficiently by delivering new products in the shortest time frame, while maintaining the highest quality and the lowest costs. The successful enterprise of our century will be characterized by an organizational structure that supports thinking process, experience transferring, knowledge discovery, and intelligence exploitation, all of which are based on data and information. The success of a modern company is not based on its size but on its ability to adapt its operation to the changing environment. To answer to these constraints, the enterprise must develop a corporate culture that empowers employees at all levels and facilitates communication among related groups for constant improvement of its core competitiveness. Such an organizational structure requires a technological infrastructure that fully supports process improvement and integration, and has the flexibility to adjust to unexpected changes in corporate direction. To keep up with rapid developments in global manufacturing, the enterprise must first look at its organization and culture, and then at its supporting technologies. Too often, companies invest only in technology to compete in the global market and don’t give enough attention to the training, the education, and the knowledge of their employees. This conference concentrates also on knowledge strategies in Product Life Cycle and brings together researchers and industrialists with the objectives to reach a mutual understanding of the scientific - industry dichotomy, while facilitating the transfer of core research knowledge to core industrial competencies.

Performance Testing, Cognition and Assessment

Selected Papers from the 15th Language Research Testing Colloquium, Cambridge and Arnhem

This publication contains a selection of research papers presented at the 15th Annual Language Testing Research Colloquium. This publication contains a selection of research papers presented at the 15th Annual Language Testing Research Colloquium (LTRC). The Colloquium was jointly hosted by the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES) in Cambridge and CITO in Arnhem in the Netherlands. At the Cambridge venue, the papers were presented on the theme of performance testing and at Arnhem, they covered aspects of communication in relation to cognition and assessment. A selection of papers has been made in order to achieve a balanced coverage of these themes. In particular, the research presented includes work on speaking and writing tests where the focus is on raters and tasks; the application of various statistical methods in language test validation; and issues related to language testing in specific contexts and with particular candidate groups.
