The neuronal cytoskeleton is a complex structure responsive to both intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Defined populations of neurons in the brains of patients with Alzheimer and several other neurodegenerative diseases contain abnormal filamentous accumulations which share elements with the cytoskeleton. Although there is a general consensus that these abnormal filaments do contain cytoskeletal elements, much debate remains regarding which cytoskeletal elements are incorporated and whether the cytoskeletal rearrangement is primary or secondary to other cellular changes. In this book these questions are addressed in a historical perspect ive in light of new data that allows the reinterpretation of previously reported results. Contributions are based on many of the major tech niques of modern biology including biochemistry, molecular biology, electron microscopy and immunocytochemistry. In the view of the editor, this volume is being written at a time when our understanding of the cytopathology of Alzheimer disease is moving from predominantly descriptive to both analytical and mechanistic. I hope that this contribution will provide impetus to speed this transi tion. 9th European Conference, ECCBR 2008, Trier, Germany, September 1-4, 2008, Proceedings
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 9th European Conference on Case-Based Reasoning, ECCBR 2008, held in Trier, Germany, in September 2008. The 34 revised research papers and 5 revised application papers presented together with 3 invited talks were carefully reviewed and selected from 71 submissions. All current issues in case-based reasoning are addressed, ranging from theoretical and methodological issues to advanced applications in various fields such as knowledge discovery, similarity, context-awareness, uncertainty, and health sciences.

The wide coverage of the recent international meeting at Bonn on high energyspin physics is reflected in this proceedings volume. Not only are fundamental and theoretical spin phenomena included but also technological developments in polarized beams and targets, and, for the first time, intermediate energy spin physics with electron machines. Highlights include the work on polarized high energy electron beams at LEP and TRISTAN, discussion of the failure of the standard model inconnection with spin phenomena, in particular the growth of the spin asymmetry in violent proton-proton scattering, the presentation of different models to account for the still-unsolved "proton spin crisis,"and proposals for four different experiments to determine the spin structurefunctions.
In just few years, case-based reasoning has evolved from a research topic studied at a small number of specialized academic labs into an industrial-strength technology applied in various fields. The INRECA methodology presented in detail in this monograph provides a data analysis framework for developing case-based reasoning solutions for successful applications in real-world industrial contexts. The book is divided into parts on: - smarter business with case-based decision support; - developing case-based applications using the INRECA methodology; and - using the methodology in various application domains. The book provides a self-contained introduction to case-based reasoning applications that address both R&D professionals and general IT managers interested in this powerful new technology. In this second edition, improvements and updates have been incorporated throughout the text. Particularly useful is the systematic coverage of experience factory applications at various steps; and, of course, the references have been extended substantially.
This research program began in 1993. The idea of developing representative samples of those active in the business creation process, now called nascent entrepreneurs, developed from the success of using regional characteristics to 1 predict variations in new firm birth rates in six countries. The initial purpose was to determine those external factors that encouraged individuals to initiate the business creation process and become, as they are now called, nascent entrepreneurs. The research procedures, mainly the critical aspects of the scre- ing procedures, were developed with the Survey Research Laboratory at the University of Wisconsin in Madison to complete the Wisconsin Entrepreneurial 2 Climate Study. Support for an initial test with a national sample was provided by the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan. Richard Curtin became involved with the incorporation of the screening module as part 3 of the Survey of Consumers in October and November in 1993. The success of these efforts in providing a detailed description of the ent- preneurial process based on representative samples led to substantial interest among entrepreneurial scholars. A founding team of Nancy Carter, William Gartner, and Paul Reynolds was able to organize the Entrepreneurial Research Consortium (ERC), a collaborative network of 34 research units that shared the financial cost and sweat equity required to implement the first national project, 4 PSED I.

Examining the Prospects for Sustainable Business Development, Performance, Innovation, and Economic Growth
Since the 2008 economic crisis, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have faced serious financial problems and have been looking to financial institutions and governments for solutions and new proposals to address these issues. This book examines the new challenge in which firms receive sustainable funding that is in alignment with the company’s spending capacity. The purpose of this book is to examine the main theoretical issues and practices regarding entrepreneurship and finance and their impact on performance, innovation and economic growth. It analyzes the fundamental aspects of entrepreneurship and studies ways in which financial institutions can better fulfill their primary function of feeding capital to businesses and the economy as a whole. Entrepreneurship and finance are fundamental to achieving success in economic and social activities. SMEs’ existence and development depend on the initiatives of entrepreneurship and access to resources, especially those of a financial nature. During the recent economic crisis, several new financing instruments have appeared, especially with structures designed for helping SMEs make their way out of the recession. This book explores some of these tools in various global economies, such as France and Spain, providing an international, multidimensional perspective.

An Analysis of Trust Drivers, the Relevance for Purchase Intentions, and the Moderating Effect of Product or Service Qualities
Acquiring the first customers is a make-or-break challenge for new ventures. In how far does the trust of a potential future customer in a new venture influence his decision to purchase? How can an entrepreneur convey trustworthiness in order to influence the decision? In his dissertation, Gunnar Wiedenfels responds to these questions with an empirical study testing a theory-based model of trust, its drivers, and its effect on purchase intentions.
