Saat ini para pemburu berita lebih memiliki kebebasan dalam menyampaikan pendapatnya, memberikan informasinya, dan menerbitkan beritanya. Kebebasan ini merupakan hasil atas perjuangan keras di masa Orde Baru, yang di masa itu kondisinya sangat terkekang-akibat sebuah pemberitaan yang dianggap membahayakan kedudukan orang-orang yang berpengaruh, maka perusahaan Penerbit : an diberhentikan secara paksa dan ditarik izin terbitnya.
