An International Perspective

This fully updated edition combines the latest research with real-life examples of social marketing campaigns the world over to help you learn how to apply the principles and methods of marketing to a broad range of social issues. The international case studies and applications show how social marketing campaigns are being used across the world to influence changes in behaviour, and reveal how those campaigns may differ according to their cultural context and subject matter. Every chapter is fully illustrated with real-life examples, including campaigns that deal with racism, the environment and mental health. The book also shows how social marketing influences governments, corporations and NGOs, as well as individual behaviour. The author team combine research and teaching knowledge with hands-on experience of developing and implementing public health, social welfare and injury prevention campaigns to give you the theory and practice of social marketing.

Becoming Hewlett Packard

Why Strategic Leadership Matters

Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard invented the model of the Silicon Valley start-up and set in motion a process of corporate becoming that made it possible for HP to transform itself six times over the 77 years since its founding in the face of sweeping technological changes that felled most of its competitors over the years. Today, HP is in the throes of a seventh transformation to secure its continued survival by splitting in two independent companies: HP Inc. and Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Based on extensive primary research conducted over more than 15 years, this book documents the differential contribution of HP's successive CEOs in sustaining the company's integral process of becoming. It uses a comprehensive strategic leadership framework to examine and explain the role of the CEO: (1) defining and executing the key tasks of strategic leadership, and (2) developing four key elements of the company's strategic leadership capability. The study of the strategic leadership of HP's successive CEOs revealed the paradox of corporate becoming, the existential situation facing successive CEOs (that justifies the book's empathic approach), and the importance of the CEO's ability to harness the company's past while also driving its future. Building on these novel insights, the book shows how the frameworks used to conceptualize the tasks of strategic leadership and the development of strategic leadership capability can serve as steps toward a dynamic theory of strategic leadership that animates an evolutionary framework of corporate becoming. This framework will be helpful for further theory development about strategic leadership and also offers practical tools for founders of new companies and CEOs and boards of directors of existing companies who intend to create, run or oversee companies built for continued relevance, longevity and greatness.

Design Education for a Sustainable Future

Sustainability is a powerful force that is fundamentally reshaping humanity’s relationship to the natural world and is ushering in the Age of Integration. The move from well-intentioned environmental friendliness to the higher bar of integral sustainability and regenerative design demands a new type of design professional, one that is deeply collaborative, ethically grounded, empathically connected and technologically empowered. As a response, this book argues for a great leap forward in design education: from an individualistic and competitive model casually focused on greening; to a new approach defined by an integral consciousness, shaped by the values of inclusivity and cooperation, and implemented by a series of integrative behaviors including: an ethically infused design brief a co-creative design process on-going value engineering pre-emptive engineering design validation through simulation on-line enabled integrated learning the use of well vetted rating systems. This book contains the integral frameworks, whole system change methodologies and intrinsic values that will assist professors and their students in an authentic and effective pursuit of design education for a sustainable future.

Automating Business Modelling

A Guide to Using Logic to Represent Informal Methods and Support Reasoning

Enhances the use of enterprise models as an effective communication medium between business and technical personnel. Details the blue-print of the to-be developed business system.

Chapters 6 and 7 describe the formalisation and reasoning of the Process and
Procedural models. The automation of this modelling support framework
described in Figure 1.1 is based on manipulation of a formal logical language
DefBM that has been developed using a lightweight approach as described in
Section 3.3.5. Before we go into detail about DefBM and the automated support,
we should firstly understand the domain within which we are working: BSDM's
business models.
