The Norwegian Domination and the Norse World, C.1100-c.1400

This book is the first in a series of four planned volumes on the Norwegian realm and its dependencies in the Central Middle Ages. The transformation of Norway and parts of the Norse world into a monarchic state in the 12th and 13th centuries is the underlying theme of this book and it is anticipated of the volumes to come. The collection of articles in this volume aims to provide a first presentation of the Norse world, the Norse community, and the 'Norgesvelde' (the Norwegian domination), and not least its historiography. However, it does not aim to give a comprehensive presentation of these topics, but rather to highlight some geographical, political and cultural aspects of the theme. Since Norway was not the only Scandinavian kingdom to develop state-like structures and strive for control over territories overseas it has been natural to consider Denmark's Baltic 'empire' and the making of a greater Sweden too, in order to provide a framework for the case of Norway.

Nazi Propaganda (RLE Nazi Germany & Holocaust)

The Power and the Limitations

Based on a detailed examination of specific aspects of Nazi propaganda, this book (originally published in 1983) enhances the understanding of National Socialism by revealing both its power and its limitations. The work tackles aspects of Nazi propaganda which had been neglected in the past, but together they demonstrate the disproportionate role assigned to propaganda in one of the most highly politicised societies in contemporary European history.

Its author, Robert Herzstein, who did a presentable job in illustrating (once more)
the nature and techniques of Nazi propaganda, wrote: 'The greatest success of

Propaganda Technique in the World War (with Supplemental Material)

"Professor Lasswell has made a most important contribution to the study of war. Basing his essay upon the thesis that modern war must be fought on three fronts, the military, the economic and the propagandist, he has given a comprehensive account of the direction of the third front in the World War. His bibliography is extensive, including more than a hundred books and articles of recent date upon the specific propaganda of the World War, or in general discussion of public opinion inspired by it." (New Republic, 1927) Harold D. Lasswell's thesis offers a general theory of the strategy and role of propaganda within a military campaign. While the examples focus on the First World War, the principles and patterns carry over to modern day warfare, politics, business, and social movements. We undergo a constant barrage of overt and covert propaganda, which can only be effectively countered by recognizing it and understanding its function. This well-written book is both objective and discerning while explaining how and why propaganda works. This reprint includes two supplemental papers, "Propaganda behind the lines," by Maj. C. J. C. Street, and "Control of propaganda as a psychological problem," by Prof. Edward K. Strong, Jr., both referenced in Lasswell's text.
