
Metaphorical Verbs in Modern English Poetry

Understanding metaphor is very important since it leads to understanding the poets intended meaning .But metaphors are not so tame so they represent an obstacle especially to those who are unfamiliar with poetic devices.The present study has tried to investigate metaphorical use of verbs in poetry. Works of William Butler Yeats have been selected for analysis; certain poems have been chosen from seven of his volumes, which are: Crossways (1889), The Rose (1893),The Wind among the Reeds (1899), The Seven Woods (1904), The Green Helmet and Other Poems (1910), Responsibilities (1914), Michael Robartes and the Dancer(1921).
