En 1952, un ambitieux journaliste, Eugenio Suárez, lance « El Caso », un hebdomadaire de faits divers. Jusqu'à la fin du régime, cette revue populaire aura le monopole des affaires sanglantes ou grotesques qui alimentent une telle presse. Expression d'une culture de masses en devenir, El Caso met en scène le discours dominant mais aussi les problématiques sociales et économiques de la période, soulignant, paradoxalement, les tensions entre ces deux éléments.
