Understanding UML

The Developer's Guide : with a Web-based Application in Java

The Unified Modeling Language (UML) is a third generation method for specifying, visualizing, and documenting an object-oriented system under development. It unifies the three leading object-oriented methods and others to serve as the basis for a common, stable, and expressive object-oriented development notation. As the complexity of software applications increases, so does the developer's need to design and analyze applications before developing them. This practical introduction to UML provides software developers with an overview of this powerful new design notation, and teaches Java programmers to analyse and design object-oriented applications using the UML notation. * Apply the basics of UML to your applications immediately, without having to wade through voluminous documentation * Use the simple Internet example as a prototype for developing object-oriented applications of your own * Follow a real example of an Intranet sales reporting system written in Java that is used to drive explanations throughout the book * Learn from an example application modeled both by hand and with the use of Popkin Software's SA/Object Architect O-O visual modeling tool.

Muslim-Christian Relations in the New Order Indonesia

The Exclusivist and Inclusivist Muslims' Perspectives

The relationship between Muslims and Christians in Indonesia is an important subject. Apart from a few investigations on certain conflicts in different areas of Indonesia, little effort has been devoted to thoroughly examining the complexity of the relationship. This study is an attempt to investigate the perspectives of the exclusivist and inclusivist Muslims on Muslim-Christian relations in Indonesia, especially during the New Order period (1965-1998).

Jewish and Islamic Law

A Comparative Study of Custom During the Geonic Period

Gideon Libson's highly original work on custom is the first attempt to present a comprehensive comparative study of Jewish-Islamic law on a particular topic during the early Middle Ages. His in-depth study of Islamic law—its sources, legal schools, and extensive legal literature—together with his expertise in the wide range of geonic and rabbinic literature enable him to determine the influence of Muslim practice on geonic custom. In both systems of law the growth of custom was a reaction to the general culture. He shows conclusively how custom in both systems of law served as a conduit for the absorption of changes, thus helping to bridge the gap between the authoritative legal systems and the practical realities of the environment. Libson's contribution to the study of comparative Jewish and Islamic law during the geonic period will be of value to scholars engaged in the study of comparative law.
