Sikap Buya Hamka dalam Konferensi Islam Sedunia di Makkah pada 1975 barangkali merupakan teladan yang sangat relevan di masa hiruk pikuk sekarang ini. Pada waktu itu, Wakil Sekjen Konferensi Islam Syaikh Safwad Sakka termakan fitnah dan percaya bahwa Hamka aktif membantu Kristenisasi.
