The Political Rights of Women in Islam

In this book, the author presents an essay by Prof. Abdulhamid al-Ansari from Qatar to English readers. The essay concerns the interesting topic of Women and Politics, one of the most controversial issues in Islam. The opinions on female involvement in politics differ a lot within the Muslim community: they vary from the total exclusion of women from politics to their partial or even total involvement and participation. The author is convinced that the three different views on the participation of women in politics and society described by Prof. al-Ansari provide a very useful categorisation, which can help to promote dialogue and tolerance within Islam. In this context, Dr. Rampoldi refers to the symbol evocated by Antoine de Saint-Exupery when he says: « Quand tu veux construire un bateau, ne commence pas par rassembler du bois, couper des planches et distribuer du travail, mais réveille au sein des FEMMES le désir de la mer grande et large ». If we transcribe Saint-Exupery’s aphorism to feminism, we see how important it is to motivate women to participate in Islamic politics and society today. Regarding the need for diversity in Islamic politics and society, according to Quran 5:48, the author states: “Thus, Islam is a religion that fundamentally affirms diversity, and the colourfulness of the world on this earth where the best man and the best woman is the one who has the best moral values, and who uses these values to build a better, more beautiful world.”

... Tunisia or Libya flagrantly violated the dignity of their people, humiliated them,
denied them their livelihood and destroyed their future. This was more than
anything was a revolution for dignity. Dignity is a sublime human value. Allah
almighty said we have honoured human beings. If human beings were content to
live without dignity, there will be no reason for their existence. How then did the
Islamists come to power? There are two reasons behind that: first, they are more
organised.

PLEASE... please understand that each man must write his OWN ending. Your
Valley will not be my Valley, or the next man's Valley. It is up to you to live,
explore, develop, and write your own Up- Valley story. If my story gives you hope,
so be it! If not, at least you will get some clues as to the changes that may be
coming your way. Have you given any thought to what lies ahead? I can give you
one sure answer... CHANGE! Several months into my Valley, it occurred to me
