Ibn Khallikan's Biographical Dictionary

The first general Islamic biographical lexicon, not confined to groups of persons or geographical places, which contains in alphabetical order the lives of the most celebrated persons of Muslim history and literature, excepting the Prophet, the first four Caliphs, the other Companions and their immediate students. This monumental work was created between 1256 - 1274 CE, and was continually improved with marginal notes by the author.
