Deliberation and the Equity Task Force in the Madison Metropolitan School District

This dissertation follows the argument that one of the central tenets of deliberative democracy is that reciprocity, the exchange of moral reasons, is required for an effective deliberative process. However, reciprocity and reason exchange do not happen spontaneously. Instead, these processes, which occur largely in formal meetings, must be nurtured in settings that are designed to encourage positive communicative interactions.
