These are only a few examples of a more general truth: violations of human rights
in historical and contemporary Islam result not from the universalist message of
the Qur'an but from its corruption by particular traditions, notably from the Near
East ... This implies a triple closing-out: with regard to the past from earlier
wisdom and revelations which are also messages from Allah; with regard to the
future, from any effort to find, starting from eternal principles, ever-new solutions
to ever-new ...
Clemens N.
