The Ethics of world religions and human rights

These are only a few examples of a more general truth: violations of human rights
in historical and contemporary Islam result not from the universalist message of
the Qur'an but from its corruption by particular traditions, notably from the Near
East ... This implies a triple closing-out: with regard to the past from earlier
wisdom and revelations which are also messages from Allah; with regard to the
future, from any effort to find, starting from eternal principles, ever-new solutions

The Changing Face of Religion and Human Rights

A Personal Reflection

Clemens N. Nathan has devoted a lifetime to the pursuit of Human Rights to understanding and reflecting upon the concept of Human Rights; to participating in, and sometimes helping to create, organisations and mechanisms for the protection and promotion of Human Rights; to helping those who have been denied their Human Rights and to encouraging and supporting research into and scholarship on Human Rights. All this has been achieved by a man who has had no formal training in the field, but who has become a recognised expert through his extensive reading, through working with leading exponents, and by drawing upon his lively intellect, his wealth of culture and his knowledge of history, philosophy and religions. This volume, published under the auspices of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, offers insight into the challenging relationship between religion and human rights.

The Greatest Benefactor of Mankind and Human Rights

returned to what it was, when Allah the Great created the heavens and the earth,
and the number of months with Allah is twelve, four of them are holy. Three of
them come in succession, zul Qadah, zul Hajj and Muharram; and one is
separate, Rajab, which come between Jamadius-Sani and Shaban. Religion is
thus established, so don't oppress yourselves. Did I convey the message? Allah
be witness! People, your wives have got rights over you and you have got rights
over them.

Human Rights in the Indian Context

While other beings obey God's law through necessity, human beings do so freely.
Hence there is no compulsion in religion." (2,256). The rights of the community
strictly derive from the shari'a (supposedly divine law). Allah alone possesses
and has given to man, his representative on earth, the responsibility of managing
this property in Allah's way. Property is, therefore, a discretionary, not absolute,
right. The owners cannot squander their property nor allow it to lie idle, nor
