Subaltern Perempuan pada Suku Banjar Dalam Perspektif Poskolonial

Buku ini merupakan hasil penelitian tentang subaltern perempuan banjar dalam tradisi Kawin Anom (kawin muda). Menguak ketertindasan perempuan dalam konteks budaya lokal yang dialami sejak zaman kolonial hingga saat ini (poskolonial). Warisan kawin anom berlangsung secara terus-menerus dan menjadi sebuah tradisi. Transformasi budaya kawin anom dimulai dari sistem perjodohan sampai pada pergaulan bebas anak-anak muda. Kawin anom direproduksi dalam fungsi sosial, budaya, dan ekonomi, sehingga berdampak pada ketertindasan perempuan yang melakukan kawin anom. Pengalaman perempuan kawin anom (life history) merupakan bagian penting dari studi etnografi feminis dalam tulisan ini. Budaya patriarkhi yang tertanam sejak zaman kolonial menjadi sebuah gambaran hidup mereka yang kuat. Penderitaan selama kawin anom berlangsung mereka lakonkan hanya karena rasa malu dan mempertahankan sebuah perkawinan. Padahal, sejak awal menikah mereka juga tidak mengetahui apa sebenarnya arti sebuah perkawinan. Perempuan menjadi tertindas manakala agama dan budaya juga dikaitkan dalam kehidupan mereka tanpa landasan yang sebenarnya. Ketertindasan perempuan dalam kehidupan rumah tangga sejak melakukan kawin anom dapat berdampak secara sosiologis dan psikologis pada mereka. Perempuan juga kerap menjadi korban kekerasan, seperti terjadinya KDRT dan gangguan reproduksi. Bahkan perempuan mengalami ketertindasan dalam hubungan suami istri. Gambaran perempuan di India yang mengalami subaltern menjadi sebuah benang merah dari kisah perempuan kawin anom pada Suku banjar di daerah penelitian. Namun perlawanan yang digambarkan Gayatri Spivak sebagai kelompok subaltern yang tak mampu berbicara menjadi sebuah subaltern baru (new subaltern) bagi mereka. Keberanian perempuan untuk melawan justru menjadikan ketertindasan baru lagi di dalam kehidupan. Perempuan muda terpaksa hidup menanggung anak bahkan tanpa kejelasan status secara formal. Buku ini menyajikan sebuah pengalaman hidup bagi kaum perempuan yang mengalami ketertindasan.

The Contribution of Universal Grammar to Second Language Acquisition - Which Role is UG Likely to Play in SLA?

Is Universal Grammar still the driving force or did the prerequisites for the acquisition change in a way that learners need to consult other means and resources, like only their general cognitive abilities and learning strategies? There are many points in which first and second language acquisition differ...It is these differences that made linguists doubt that first and second language acquisition are entirely the same process. This paper is concerned with the question whether Universal Grammar is still available for second language learners and whether the mental grammar of L2 learners shows signs of impairment. After a short introduction to the concept of Universal Grammar in first language acquisition, it will turn to Universal Grammar in second language acquisition. In this context it will be considered whether the interlanguage grammar might be impaired and whether UG is probable to influence second language acquisition. Several theories of second language acquisition will be presented in advance to the discussion whether learners are likely to have full access, partial access or no access to Universal Grammar. Before being concluded it will take a short look at the problems that arise in second language research.

Sociolinguistics, Solidarity and Politeness

Seminar paper from the year 2007 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Linguistics, grade: 1,0, University of Duisburg-Essen, course: Language Variation and Change, 13 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: The purpose of the present paper from a sociolinguistic stance is to consider the aspects of solidarity and politeness including face-threatening acts from the point of view of their linguistic components, relevance for social interaction and their usage in male/female discourse. In addition, the apparent complexity of the sociolinguistic dimension of solidarity and politeness will be dealt with to give details to the function and consequence which arises from the use of address terms as well as politeness and solidarity patterns reflecting complex social relationships linguistically. In essence, this paper will show that certain linguistic choices a speaker makes indicate the social relationship that the speaker perceives to exist between his or her interlocutor. Aspects of social relationships, such as distance, solidarity or intimacy are given linguistic expression by address systems consisting of a T/V distinction and address terms. This way, speakers are given the chance to either be more formal or less formal with their interlocutor on certain occasions (Hickey 2007: 3). Hence, the aim of this chapter is to consider the basic concepts and terminology of a T/V distinction as well as forms of address and so pointing out the only two pronominal variants tu and vous of address in French and German which either represent social distance or intimacy between interlocutors. In addition, a general description of the semantic evolution of the two pronouns of address will be offered. In dealing with the pronouns of address in French and German from the point of view of their function in actual speech, this chapter describes on the one hand the semantic differences existing today
