New information technologies have raised questions regarding AACR2. Topics addressed include bibliographic relationships, seriality, access points for works, MARC, and AACR.
Taking the 'special relationship' as a central theme, the book explores the public and private diplomacy between Britain and the United states in periods of war and peace. Using recently released archives as well as contemporary sources, the areas both of cooperation and conflict are revealed. What emerges is a much more complexed relationship than the one normally portrayed in much of the secondary literature on the subject. The documents also reveal the way the concepts of the 'special relationship' was used as a 'tool of diplomacy' on both sides of the Atlantic.

It is Edinburgh, 1822, and young Robbie is eight years old when he witnesses his mother's pain and subsequent death from an operation - without anaesthetic - to remove a tumour from her breast at the hands of Dr Knox. Haunted by this terrible event, Robbie, his hapless father and baby sister Essie attempt to move on with their lives. But when Robbie's father loses all their money and disappears, Robbie is left to look after himself and his sister in the Edinburgh slums. Somehow he falls in with Burke and Hare, the two men whom Knox employs to 'collect' bodies for medical research. Robbie sees a way to avenge his mother's death. Convincing himself that Knox is having people killed for him to experiment on, Robbie eventually confronts him. But Robbie comes to realise that for all his hard-heartedness and corrupt methods, Knox's motives are ultimately for the good: to improve surgical conditions, and operate on patients with the greatest speed and therefore minimum risk. Robbie eventually trains to be a surgeon, finally giving meaning to his mother's tragic death.

Islam diturunkan membawa misi sebagai rahmat bagi umat manusia (rahmah li al-âlamîn). Namun, para ulama telah menetapkan filosofi dan etika hukum dalam bentuk maqâshid al-syarî’ah (tujuan syariah). Pengungkapan misi Islam, nilai-nilai dasar akhlak, dan maqâshid alsyarî’ah tersebut sangat penting, terutama dalam konteks akomodasi terhadap budaya lokal dan sistem nasional, serta respons terhadap peradaban modern atau ide-ide global yang sebenarnya diakomodasi hampir semua negara di dunia, seperti hak-hak asasi manusia, demokrasi, dan pluralisme. Dalam konteks Indonesia yang berideologi Pancasila dan dalam waktu bersamaan terjadi proses modernisasi, demokratisasi, sekularisasi, dan desekularisasi, Islam bisa melakukan peran integratif dan sekaligus korektif terhadap negara untuk memperkuat sistem demokrasi yang tetap menjunjung tinggi agama dan kemanusiaan.
