Advances in Web-Based Learning -- ICWL 2003

Second International Conference, Melbourne, Australia, August 18-20, 2003, Proceedings

nd The 2 International Conference on Web-Based Learning (ICWL 2003) took place in Melbourne, Australia. ICWL 2003 followed the tradition of the successful ICWL 2002 held in Hong Kong and aimed at providing an in-depth study of the technical and pedago- cal issues, as well as incorporating management issues of Web-based learning. Additionally, there was a focus on issues of interest to the learner, o?ering the optimal Web based learning environment to achieve high academic results. - akin University organized this conference in conjunction with the Hong Kong WebSociety,toprovideaforumwhichgatherededucators,researchers,techno- gists and implementers of Web-based learning from around the world to discuss, collaborate and advance all relevant issues pertaining to this area of research. The main focus of ICWL 2003 was on the most critical areas of Web-based learning, in particular, Web-based learning environments, virtual universities, pedagogical issues related to Web-based learning, multimedia-based e-learning, interactive e-learning systems, intelligence in on-line education, e-learning so- tions, CSCL, and authoring tools for e-learning. In total, the conference received 118 papers from researchers and practitioners from 13 countries. Each paper was reviewed by at least three internationally renowned referees. Papers were ri- rously examined and selected based on their originality, signi?cance, correctness, relevance, and clarity of presentation. Among the high-quality submissions, 50 papers were accepted and included in the proceedings. Later, the proceedings editors will recommend that some high-quality papers from the conference be published in a special issue of an international journal.

Differentiating Instruction for the 21st Century

This book's collection of instructional strategies and assessment methods show how to implement and differentiate project-based learning that fosters 21st century skills in Grades K–12.

As discussed in Chapter 4, many proponents of technology or PBL in the
classroom suggest that the very meaning of teaching and learning is changing
and that students are becoming creative agents in the learning process during
the 21st century (Bender & Waller, 2011; Boss & Krauss, 2007; Ferriter & Garry,
2010). In the context of the 21st-century classroom, teaching is transformed into
facilitating learning rather than leading learning, and learning changes into
creation of content ...

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Workshops held at the ICWL 2013 International Conference on Web Based Learning in Kenting, Taiwan, in October 2013. The 29 papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in this volume. They were held at the following workshops: First International Workshop on Ubiquitous Social Learning, USL 2013; 2013 International Workshop on Smart Living and Learning, IWSLL 2013; Third International Symposium on Knowledge Management and e-Learning, KMEL 2013; 2013 International Workshop on Cloud Computing for Web-Based Learning, IWCL 2013; 2013 International Workshop on Web Intelligence and Learning; WIL 2013; and the 2013 International Workshop on e-book and Education Cloud, IWEEC 2013.

The research papers on exploring the system effectiveness and learning
performance of using E-book with teaching and learning strategies on diverse
web-based learning environments are particularly welcome. With the advance of
networking, a variety of web applications have emerged on the education field,
such as web 2.0, mobile learning, ubiquitous learning, and cloud learning. In
response to the prevalence of cloud applications, mobile learning with cloud
services has created ...

The concepts of psychological bestirring and psychological distance in web-
based learning situation are proposed. Their significance and effects are
examined. An online learning performance model is constructed which employs
psychological bestirring as a new factor independent of the factor of information
stimulation. Logistic equation and curve is suggested as its fundamental
mathematic model. The model was then used to explain the restriction of
psychological distance on the ...
